Neighborhood Update from RCIL
RCIL, alongside Councilmember Liliana Baktiari, has been working with various City departments to address ongoing issues at Hop In, Texaco, and The Commons. Since these properties are privately owned, shutting them down isn’t a simple process—holding owners accountable requires coordination across multiple city departments.
Over the past year, we’ve made progress (yes, the process is slow, but we are moving forward). The Commons has been hit with major code enforcement violations, and many residents attended the hearing against its ownership, which helped levy additional fines. Additionally, there is a **possibility of a sale to a reputable affordable housing group**. More details will be provided as they are confirmed.
At the RCIL Zoning and Community meetings, the new Hop In owners heard our concerns and are attempting to comply, but we need to keep the pressure on to ensure real change.
Regarding the recent shooting, Councilmember Baktiari’s office immediately contacted RCIL to confirm they were aware of the incident, though no further details were available at the time. In past incidents, police have told us at community meetings that they cannot disclose information during an ongoing investigation. **RCIL will has reached out to the Zone Captain to check for any updates and see if they can attend our Community meeting on Monday at 7pm.
**How You Can Help:**
Join us at the **Zoning Meeting on February 6th at Lang Carson at 7pm**. New owners of the Moreland Package Store will be seeking a liquor license, and this is an opportunity to voice concerns about safety and accountability in that area.
